Second Life overview
Second Life is a 3D virtual world entirely built and owned by its residents. Since opening to the public in 2003, it has grown explosively, and today is inhabited by a total of 5,145,919 people from around the globe.
From the moment you enter the World you'll discover a vast digital continent, teeming with people, entertainment, experiences, and opportunity. Once you've explored a bit, perhaps you'll find a perfect parcel of land to build your house or business. You'll also be surrounded by the creations of your fellow residents. Because residents retain the rights to their digital creations, they can buy, sell, and trade with other residents.
The Marketplace currently supports millions of US dollars in monthly transactions. This commerce is handled with the in-world unit-of-trade, the Linden dollar, which can be converted to US dollars at several thriving online Linden Dollar exchanges.

Interface and Font Improvements
The Flat UI project includes steps toward a more readable, modern appearance:
- Adoption of Google Inter typeface, designed specifically for UIs, which is more readable.
- Improved font scaling and layout handling.
- “Flat” visual design on buttons, tabs, and menus so labels are more readable.
- Blue highlight color to increase visibility of selected list items.
New Login Screen
- We’ve moved login fields to the left in a more standard arrangement, and simplified the screen, using tabs for categories of content rather than displaying it all on one screen in crowded, small text.
Voice Moderation
- We’re adding Voice moderation along with hosting our own WebRTC voice solution! Authorized users will soon be able to moderate voice users on their own land.
Who can moderate:
- Region owners and estate managers can moderate voice on parcels configured to use the region voice channel (‘Restrict Voice to this parcel’ disabled)
- Parcel owners can moderate voice on parcels configured to use their own parcel voice channel (‘Restrict Voice to this parcel’ enabled)
- If a parcel is owned by a group and uses its own voice channel, any group member with the ‘Moderate Group Chat’ ability can moderate
How to moderate:
- Go to the location you wish to moderate, and ensure you are connected to spatial voice
- Open the ‘Conversations’ floater, and right click on any username in the ‘Nearby chat’ list. If you have moderation ability, the ‘Moderation options’ menu will appear
- Select the appropriate moderation action, which might include:
- Mute everyone: mute all avatars connected to the spatial voice channel. Note that this setting is ‘sticky’: late-joining avatars will also be muted.
- Unmute everyone: unmute all avatars connected to the spatial voice channel, so that they may speak if they wish.
- Mute this participant: mute the selected avatar
- Unmute this participant: unmute the selected avatar
Where to try moderation:
- Moderation can currently be used on any region in Second Life.
- For those who are not land owners or Estate managers, some public test parcels have been set up at https://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/WebRTC%20Voice%201/114/225/23
- The two parcels are owned by a publicly joinable group, which has been configured to allow for any member to moderate voice chat. Both parcels are configured to use their own parcel voice channel. Click the green orb for instructions. The main parcel in ‘WebRTC Voice 1’ uses the region channel, and can only be moderated by the region owner or an estate manager.
Bug Fixes
- Made bold more bold with this latest build after good community Feedback.
- Fixed a few places where text ran over instead of wrapping.
- Inventory does not update until relog and teleport causes disconnections in Official Viewer and Firestorm https://github.com/secondlife/viewer/issues/5569

What's astounding is that the Second Life devs can't be bothered to catch up with Apple M-Series processors, aka ARM. This stuff is all Intel x86. M-Series Macs started in 2020. Lazy, lazy, lazy. Considering the amount of 3D coded into SL, this is lunatic on their part. So if you're on an M-Series Mac, you have to run SL in Rosetta 2 EMULATION. 😝

Linden Lab is Aiding and Abetting Criminal Activity:
Millions of real life dollars are siphoned from the Second Life music community yearly....without any royalties paid to rightful copyright owners for use of their material...nor are there any real life taxes imposed....all the while....Linden Lab profits from transfer fees for out-going/laundered money.....and music venues wish to act like hotshots while they harbor entertainers who think they are above the law and avoid paying federal taxes on millions of virtual world (Second Life) income.
Some people believe real life regulations stop at the log in screen entering Second Life
When you speak out against corruption in Second Life....they attempt to flip it around...make you out to be the bad guy...YOU are the criminal.......your name entered into ban list all around the grid.
Second Life has become an evil empire full of corruption, greed and trolls....There are much better things to do than to consolidate yourself with a bunch of a--holes.

A lot of real life money revolves around virtual world music venues....hiring of entertainers ($20.00 per hour...sometimes a lot more than that.....plus tips.........some earning up to and well over $400.00 per week in real life income)....dance animations, guitars, pianos, drum sets....etc....venues furniture....blah, blah, blah. It cost money to buy virtual world lindens (money) and then it cost again to transfer lindens (money) back out into the real world.
Linden Lab does NOT publicize "live music" events in Second Life by way of videos. I would assume this is a way to keep their money laundering operation under wraps.

It's all fun and games in the Second Life music community as long as entertainers can launder 1000's upon 1000's of real life dollars and venues can also panhandle guest who attend these virtual world shows. Why should Linden Lab complain....they're making a profit off money transfer fees.
